Parents across the UK can take advantage of multiple school uniform deals in the run-up to the summer holidays this year . including one that will save them an extra 25% off uniform basics.
Tesco is the latest supermarket to offer families a helping hand with the costs of uniforms for September 2024, which can set parents back hundreds of pounds per child.
Tesco's school uniform deal starts at the end of this month – 23 July 2024 – but the supermarket is yet to confirm exactly what items will be included in the sale.
However, it's thought that the deal will include school uniform basics. Products sold by Tesco are described, on site, as 'great-value' and 'easy-care' uniforms that will 'save you time and money'.
Parents who want to snap up the major supermarket's offer will need their Clubcard.
And the deal will only last for a limited time too, so you'll need to be quick.
Other supermarkets have their own deals going on. From money off to budget bundles, here's what the other brands are offering – and the all-important dates you need to know.
Budget supermarket Lidl is offering parents a complete uniform set for just £5, as part of its 'Whole Uniform £5 Offer'.
Parents can choose from two polo shirts, a sweatshirt and a choice of trousers, skirt or shorts.
Individual items on sale won't break the bank either – a two-pack of kids short sleeve white shirts will set you back just £2.49, while a two-pack of polo shirts will cost just £1.75.
Individually, a kids pleated skirt, kids regular fit trousers and kids regular fit shorts will also cost just £1.75 each.
The deal started on Thursday 4 July and is still on sale now, but as ever with Lidl, once it's gone, it's gone.
Rival supermarket Aldi's £5 uniform deal – where parents can get three items for just a fiver – is back for the third year in a row.
As part of the deal, parents can get:
Plus, this year, the supermarket is adding cargo shorts and a cardigan to its bundle for the first time. And they're available in a choice of colours and sizes from 4-12 years.
Like Lidl, this deal started on Thursday 4 July and is still on sale now, but expected to sell out fast.
Marks and Spencer – who will, from this summer, offer repairs to any worn-out uniform – is also offering a 20% off deal for parents stocking up on uniform in time for the new school year.
The supermarket and high street store's sale started last week, on Tuesday 2 July 2024, and will run for a 'limited time only'.
Currently, prices start at £7 for three cotton unisex polo shirt, down to £5.60 in the sale.
Also included in the deal is a girls gingham playsuit and a three-pack of easy-iron white shirts.
While ASDA isn't currently offering any special deals on school uniform, the supermarket's prices are already generous and parents can pick up a two-pack of shirts for just £3, or a two-pack basic cardigan from just £8.
Plus, a two-pack of short sleeve shirts will set parents back just £5 and kids can get a new pair of school shoes for just £10 too.
Sainsbury's uniform deal – which gave parents 25% off any school items – has now finished, but the supermarket's prices are still pretty cheap.
In fact, parents can pick up a pair of school shoes for just £4.80, a school skort for £2.50 and two polo shirts for only £4.
Families looking for help towards the costs of uniform can apply for extra cash help if they qualify for free school meals or other benefits.
In Wales, parents can now apply for either £125 and £200 of help per child through the School Essentials Grant – a cash boost for low-income families with children in Reception to Year 11.
The money can be spent on uniform, sports kits and more.
Parents in England can also apply for similar help of up to £200 in school uniform help via a non-repayable grant given to families.
Local authorities can set their own eligibility criteria, but generally in the UK if families qualify for free school meals, they generally qualify for a school uniform grant.
And parents who are on low incomes or who claim benefits are also most likely to qualify too.
Parents have told how they will continue to take term-time holidays, despite fines increasing this term.
